Aika

Aika currently works for the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Minority Health (OMH). Her research portfolio encompasses topics including but not limited to Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) Standards, behavioral health, HHS Sickle Cell Disease Workgroup, and maternal mortality.

Aika completed her Master of Public degree in Maternal and Child Health from the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health. Her capstone project, Gender-Based Violence in Haiti: Understanding the Role of Social Norms, was a secondary-data collection questionnaire that obtained information about attitudes, gender norms, and intimate partner experiences. In her undergraduate years, Aika completed a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Modern Languages: French in May 2016. With experiences such as being a Resident Assistant, Orientation Leader, and Teaching Assistant for Chemistry, she is not new to influencing and working with students.

As an instructor, Aika brings her diverse perspective and intercultural competence to all her interactions. She prides herself in strengthening the self-efficacy of her students through productive relationship building.

When she is not tutoring or working, Aika likes to work out, read, and travel.
