David
David has over twenty years of teaching and tutoring experience, working with middle school, high school, and college students. He is a graduate of Sidwell Friends School and Wesleyan University in Connecticut, and he holds a master's degree, magna cum laude, from Boston University. His areas of expertise are writing, English, history, and study skills. David has taught English and has tutored a range of students in English and writing, including college students. He has taught American, European, and world history at the high school and college levels. He won the Teaching Excellence Award when he taught history at the University of Connecticut.
Along with many years of experience, David’s tutoring draws upon proven strategies for studying and writing that are informed by the latest research. He has in-depth experience with students who have executive function challenges and has had success working with international students. David works with his students to break the material into manageable pieces and navigate their classes in an efficient and productive way.
David enjoys building strong, long-term relationships with students and their parents. He is committed to helping students work effectively and perform at their highest level. He seeks to inspire students to enjoy the learning process, and he finds tremendous satisfaction in supporting a student as she or he gains new understanding and insight.
David gets outside as often as possible, particularly along the C & O Canal and the Potomac River—considered the wildest river of any major urban area in the world (right in our backyard!).
