John

Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, John graduated from Allegheny College, where he majored in Biochemistry and minored in Studio Art. During his undergraduate studies, John conducted research on plant-microbe interactions and was part of a college initiative that educated local elementary and middle school students on environmental issues. He also worked for three years as a chemistry, biology and biochemistry tutor for college level courses, as well as a drop-in tutor for high-school level math and physics. During his classroom engagement and tutoring positions, John developed a passion for academic instruction and mentoring.

Following graduation, John relocated to the D.C. area to pursue a research fellowship at the National Institutes of Health, where he studied primary immunodeficiencies. Currently, John is pursuing a Master of Public Health degree and hopes to merge his interest in the health sciences with his passion for mentoring in a career focused on community medicine and health literacy. 

John takes great pride and enjoyment in developing connections with his students and fostering their academic success. As a freelance artist, John emphasizes a creative, visual approach to learning the biological sciences. He specializes in biology, chemistry and physics but can also aid students in developing time management and study skills.
