Matt
Matt holds his MA in philosophy and literature from American University, where he also worked as a writing center instructor, teaching assistant, and private tutor. Matt has since gained experience tutoring students in grades 5th-12th in a variety of subjects. His primary area of expertise is the humanities, and in particular essay writing, literary analysis, and study strategies. He also has significant experience teaching students who struggle with a variety of learning and social emotional challenges, including executive functioning deficits, dyslexia, anxiety, dysgraphia, and others.
Matt has been a middle and high school teacher and tennis coach for the past five years, and currently works as an English teacher and learning specialist at Browne Academy in Alexandria. His passion for education stems from his belief that empathy is most effectively built through the development of social-academic skills like critical thinking, perspective-taking, free discussion, and peer collaboration.
Matt lives in Old Town Alexandria, and in his spare time enjoys playing tennis, discovering new music, taking walks, and eating the apples that his students bring him every day.
