Rachel
Rachel graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Mary Washington. She is currently working towards her master’s degree in social work from Western New Mexico University. Out of college, Rachel’s first job experience was working with children with autism. She has training and interventions for working with special needs children and teens. Rachel also spent time working as an in-home mental health counselor for two years. She has experience working with children with anxiety, stress, depression, ADHD and other mental health disabilities both in and out of school. Rachel was also the president of the women’s club basketball team at Mary Washington. She has been playing and coaching throughout her life as a counselor for high school basketball camps and soccer camps, and she was a competitive player throughout high school.
Rachel has a focus on children and teens, specifically with at-risk youth, within her studies of social work. She has an extensive history with childcare, along with some teaching experience. She has both babysat and nannied throughout all of high school and college. Rachel has also spent a total of two years working at a preschool in Fredericksburg, VA. During her time there, Rachel was able to work the summer program, which included pool days, field trips, fun activities, providing lunch and snacks, and implementing educational activities throughout the day. During the school year, Rachel obtained some experience creating lesson plans for younger children, about age four, and establishing a regular school day schedule. Rachel has also had experience working with older, school age children, helping to establish a schedule for homework or school projects with a mix of fun activities.
Rachel enjoys sports, hiking, the beach, and any outdoor activities. She is social and enjoys being around others. Rachel has also worked with children throughout her life and has a passion for working to improve the learning and overall life of a child. Rachel has a very upbeat and active style while still implementing structure throughout the day.
